Skirmishing Spaniards

spanish caetrii3Skirmisher order arrived. Instead of just ordering Spanish caetratii (S) to finish off Carthaginians, I thought that it would be good idea to include both Baleric slingers (S) and Gallic javelins (S) for the future army development. At least Baleric slingers were used by Rome and her enemies around Mediterranean and this opens interesting possibilities.

Of course, Romans learned from their enemies and copied without hesitation all useful military innovations and tactics of her enemies and subjugated realms. At the end, ability to adopt new things quickly, combined with nearly inexhaustible manpower pool established Roman hegemony to the Mediterranean. For every defeated legion, there was another one waiting with man to try out something new. About 2nd Punic War one could say that at the end, Scipio Africanus was not a product of Roman Republic, but a product of Hannibal.

To stop Roman war machine from conquer all of known world, some ranged units are needed to keep them checked. Parthians and Huns would be even better, but one has to be patient to wait for their arrival.
